1. Designer brands that are growing in popularity

Dior – Valentino – Miu Miu – Chanel – Acne Studios – Stella McCartney

We’ve reviewed 247 runway shows from Fashion Week for womenswear in Spring/Summer 2023, and these brands have garnered the most attention: Christian Dior, Valentino, Miu Miu, Saint Laurent, Chanel, Bottega Veneta, Balmain, Acne Studio and Stella McCartney. This means that these collections will inspire fast fashion brands such as Mango, Zara, &Other Stories, for example. So keep an eye on these designers to get an idea of which direction fashion is choosing for the coming season.

2. The punk look is on the rise

Acne Studios – Levis x Ambush – Juny Watanabe

Compared to the SS22 collections, punk looks have increased by 272% in SS23. Acne Studios, for example, showcased punk-inspired looks with pastel distressed leather, metal spikes, and ripped dresses and skirts. Junya Watanabe, David Koma and Celine are just a few designers who have drawn inspiration from the punk universe.

3. Grunge style is a growing trend

Bottega Veneta – Coach – Courrèges – Gauchere

Grunge music from the late 80s and early 90s spawned a fashion style consisting of laid-back looks with iconic pieces such as plaid shirts, tank tops, military boots, biker and denim jackets, and ripped trousers. Coach and Edward Crutchley are among the designers who have explored this aesthetic.

4. Sparkling and metallics are here to stay

Altuzarra – Dries van Noten – Valentino – Chanel

Last year’s biggest trend, sparkling looks, has increased by 10% in SS23. Brands like Chanel and Valentino showcased sequins, lamé, and other metallic materials on the runway.

5. Cargo pants, mini skirts, Y2K, and leather jackets are still trending

6. Bold colours are taking a back seat

We saw 15% fewer bold colours on the SS23 runways compared to SS22, but shades like lime green, scarlet red, and cobalt are still in for the upcoming season. However, pastel colours are predominant.

So, there you have it! These are the growing and ongoing trends for SS23 that you need to know. That way, you’ll be able to choose which clothes go to the back of your wardrobe, which ones come to the forefront and what you really need to buy new.
