It’s no secret that Hedi Slimane has been whipping up more than just fashion vibes since 2018, when he snagged the creative reins of the French luxury powerhouse, Celine. Slimane, a political science grad turned design maverick, has been busy curating the Celine universe. With the rollout of the new makeup collection, Celine Beauté, the press spiel goes something like: “The birth of Celine Beauté isn’t just an add-on; it’s a deep dive into the brand’s rich tapestry, serving up a slice of French femininity and allure that Hedi Slimane has been perfecting with his new rulebook for Maison Celine over the past five years.”
Celine Beauté Timeline
Back in 2019, Hedi Slimane decided to spice things up by rebooting a Celine perfume line. This move marked the luxury label’s grand re-entrance into the fragrance scene after a 50-year hiatus. Central to this olfactory venture was the essence of Parisian chic and French elegance. I got my hands on a few of these scents, and let me tell you, Saint-Germain-des-Prés and Dan Paris had me at hello.
The Haute Parfumerie collection is a lineup of 11 scents you can snag at Celine boutiques and selected hotspots, including the chic Le Bon Marché department store in Paris.
Fast forward 5 years, and Celine is expanding its Beauté realm with the launch of a spanking new colour cosmetics line.
La Collection de l’Arc de Triomphe
The tale tying the Arc de Triomphe to Maison Celine takes us back to 1971. Picture this: Celine Vipiana’s ride breaks down at the Arc de Triomphe, and as she’s waiting for a rescue, her eyes catch the chain designs wrapping the monument. And just like that, the chain motif morphs into the iconic Celine monogram. In 2018, Hedi Slimane brought this symbol back to life, launching the Triomphe line, which now christens collections, accessories, and the brand’s debut makeup line.
This colour cosmetics range is in sync with the AW24 collection Hedi Slimane unveiled at the latest Paris Fashion Week. The whole shebang is a nod to the 60s, Celine’s heyday. Models strutted the runway rocking ‘La Peau Nue’ natural rose lipstick, one of the 15 fab shades from the ‘Le Rouge Celine’ collection hitting shelves this autumn 2024. Talk about a throwback with a modern twist!
