We always look forward to Cannes, the chicest film festival on the French Riviera, where stars inspire us with luxurious gowns and fabulous jewellery. And this year was no different. However, a French actress stepped up her Red Carpet game by choosing an outfit that made her stand out from the crowd of long evening gowns. That is, Marion Cotillard attended the Cannes Film Festival 2022 to promote her film Frère et Soeur in a black mini playsuit from the French fashion house Chanel. The shorts outfit stirred up social media, and Instagram received the look with mixed emotions. While some loved the sexy playsuit that Marion Cotillard wore on the red carpet, others hated it, saying it was not glamorous enough for Cannes.
Details of Marion Cotillard’s mini playsuit
Marion Cotillard, an Ambassador of Chanel, combined the polished shorts style with the chicness we expect to see at Cannes. So, although very short and contemporary, the black colour gives the playsuit sobriety. Additionally, Chanel plays with textures in this ensemble. The sheer flowing sleeves contrast with the mini playsuit emblazoned with Chanel’s sequined logo, adding a touch of sexiness. Also, a row of crimson buttons on one side of the playsuit brings a pop of colour to the head-to-toe black look and matches Marion Cotillard’s red lipstick. Finally, a belted waist highlights the actress’ hourglass figure, and black stilettos help the 46-year-old show off her toned legs.

We spotted other playsuit looks at Cannes
Certainly, Marion Cotillard wasn’t the only actress donning the playsuit style at this year’s Cannes festival. The Franco-Argentine Berenice Bejo looked stunning, wearing a shimmering green look from Valentino Pre-Fall 2022 collection. She paired a long see-through lace beaded shirt and matching sequin shorts, finishing her glam outfit with gold sandals.
Like Marion Cotillard and Bejo, Aditi Tao Hydari wore a playsuit to make her debut on the red carpet at Cannes. The Indian actress chose a colourful printed Valentino playsuit from the Italian house’s Fall 2022 Promenade collection. Both playful and comfortable, the short outfit comes in a relaxed silhouette that screams summertime.
Why add playsuits to your summer wardrobe
From the outfits, we saw Marion Cotillard, Berenice Bejo, and Aditi Tao Hydari wear at Cannes, we can predict that playsuits will become the new look for cocktail parties and evening events.
Additionally, playsuits are great pieces to have in your summer vacation capsule wardrobe. First, you can wear them over bikinis with flip-flops and a straw bag to go to the beach. Next, pair your playsuit with clogs or espadrilles to stroll around in the afternoon. Finally, add heeled sandals and vintage costume jewellery, and you have a fabulous look to go out at night.
